Hello Peregrine readers,

There’s so much excitement and buzz in the air as February 14th draws near!

The date February 14th will now be synonymous with #CHILDHERO! Yes, you got that right! It’s the #CHILDHERO Funfair On February 14th.

On the 14th of February, 2016, Peregrine Reads #CHILDHERO project shall joyfully celebrate valentine’s day in grand style with the less-privileged children.

As a step in the right direction, the #CHILDHERO project which initially consisted of an online literary short-story contest and a movie, extended further to organise a “street-reach out” funfair that can bring together the less-privileged children in a joyful feast, commensurate of valentine; a celebration of love!

The CHILD HERO awareness campaign for the less-privileged child, though only at its first edition, hopes to give a re-definition of valentine’s day by solely dedicating the day to the interests of the less-privileged children, hence the much anticipated funfair!

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

On the 14th of February, 2016 the CHILDHERO project wishes to celebrate the less-privileged children with lots of snacks, food, drinks, music, and performances for and by the children, gift items (courtesy, MTN) and lots more!

The event will bring together children from different orphanage homes in a joyful celebration and also give everyone in attendance a chance to meet and connect with them, in the “valentine” spirit.

The children will be given an opportunity to express themselves by showcasing their differing skills and creative talents with different kinds of performances. There will also be performances by guests in attendance.

The funfair will also embrace the premiering of the #CHILDHERO movie, titled “Children of the streets”, the winning story for Peregrine Reads 2015 #CHILDHERO short story competition.

The “Children of the streets” movie, a Peregrine Production in collaboration with Moc White Images, mirrors the lives of the abandoned, maltreated, desolate and neglected children, and would leave in the hearts of viewers not only a sense of compassion towards children, especially the less-privileged ones but will also awaken our individual responsibility towards children as a person and as a nation.

The #CHILDHERO Funfair will be a collaboration between Peregrine Reads and Soroptimist international, of Surulere, whose charitable interest in the cause for not just women and girls but also for the less-privileged children, shall altogether create a memorable day for the children.

Who are the Soroptimist?

Soroptimists are global volunteers working together to transform and empower the lives of women and girls by increasing and promoting a strong participation in education & leadership and enabling a larger world of opportunities for women and girls.

With a network of around 80,000 club members in 132 countries and territories at a local, national and international level, the soroptimists have over the years, built strong communities where women and girls together can achieve their individual and collective potential.

The event will also embrace the special recognition, warm presence and support of ‘Poets in Nigeria’ by the influence of Sir Eriata Oribhabor (Founder, PIN & SFEV), a great supporter and promoter of literary activities & events in Nigeria and the #CHILDHERO project.

There will be media coverage of the #CHILDHERO funfair event by NTA 10, LUMEN CHRISTI TV, amongst others.
